Winter finally arrives in the Fraser Valley in mid-January, about the same time and amount as 2020.

Old Man Winter is visiting the west coast of Canada this week. Last night, Tuesday, January 16 at about 11 PM the skies that had been darkening and lowering over the course of the afternoon, started to lay down the wintery white stuff.

Over the week prior, temperatures dropped to a stiffening -15 degrees Celcius in the Fraser Valley, significantly affecting travel safety and making life more difficult for the transient and homeless in communities.

What started as brisk winds of 50 - 60kph brought snow overnight and into late morning. Temperatures at the time of writing are just below freezing (0 degrees Celcius or 32 degrees Fahrenheit).

According to the Government of Canada website for environment and natural resources, weather.gc.ca, freezing rain and or more snow are possible overnight with rain on and off with temperatures at about 5 degrees Celcius until at least next Tuesday, January 23, 2024.
